Organisers of the Cornhill Highland Games have confirmed that the 2020 event has been cancelled due to restrictions following the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

The event was due to take place on Saturday 6 June in Cornhill, Aberdeenshire, with plans already at an advanced stage. However, the volunteer committee made the decision in line with the Scottish and UK Governments policy and guidance on large scale gatherings and mindful of the uncertainty which lies ahead in the coming months.

Marketing & PR Coordinator, Vivien Rae, said: “It is with much regret and disappointment that we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 Cornhill Highland Games.  As volunteers, we have invested a lot of time and effort over many months planning the event, however ultimately the health and wellbeing of our attendees and local communities is paramount.”

Stallholders and attendees have been notified of the decision and efforts are currently underway to refund deposits and take notes of interest for next year’s event.

The committee will now focus on planning the next Games, which will take place on Saturday 5 June 2021, promising a full programme of traditional Highland Games events, Highland dancing, children’s activities, crafts, stalls and catering.

New volunteers are invited to join the committee to ensure the continuation of the Games and delivery of a full and exciting programme of activities for visitors to enjoy.  If you are able to assist, please contact Games Secretary
